Resumen:
This work studies the link between new technologies and labor outcomes. Using a comprehensive collection of business narratives for the period 2005-2024, we construct a detailed characterization of technology covering 151 industries and 545 occupations. We document large asymmetries in the importance of augmentation and automation across sectors and occupations. In most industries and occupations, labor automation is more prominent than labor augmentation. Estimated augmentation is positively associated with employment and wage growth. This link is more intense in the case of white-collar workers. In contrast, we find no significant association in the case of automation.
